What we've been reading tonight...

Book Sharing Monday

Tonights bedtime story was
'Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Book?' by Lauren Child

Written by the popular Charlie and Lola author Lauren Child, this book is an awesome example of re-using fairytales in a more contemporary way. The story chronicles Herbs journey into one of his storybooks, a book of fairytales. Herb meets all the classic fairytale characters and interacts with them according to the 'edits' that he has made to the book whilst he was going through a scribbling stage.

It is a great book, which engages with the real way that children interact with books, and uses it to re-write classic fairytale characters.

Since Kit is only just 2, it is still quite a long book to get through with his concentration in tact, but he engages with the pull out middle pages and the holes in the book. He even told me off and turned the book upside down when we reached the page that Herb had pulled out and put back in upside down.

As a bedtime story it worked extra-specially well as, like Herb in the pic, my son is now fast asleep!
